Lucille Schreiber

October 16, 1921 — November 25, 2012

Lucille B. (Nevel) Schreiber, age 91, of Westlake Woods Assisted Living, formerly of Chelsea Ave., died on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at her residence.

She was born in Clarion County, on October 16, 1921, a daughter of the late Maurice and Laura Hargenrader Ochs.

She graduated from Parker High School where she played basketball.

She was an excellent and thorough homemaker and housekeeper.

Lucille was a founding member of St. Julia Church, and a member and Past President of the Rosary Society.

She was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and also was a member of two 500 Card Clubs and the "Diet" Club. She was a proud member of Cursillo, Erie 76.

Her hobbies included candle making, gardening, and baking thousands of Christmas cookies which were sent to family and friends all over the country.

Her optimism was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a woman of faith, strength, and courage.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. Schreiber; three sons: Robert, James and Mark Nevel; a daughter Barbara Ann (Nevel) Ubaque; a stepson Walter R. Schreiber, Jr.; and a granddaughter Gretchen Nevel; four brothers, Thaddeus, Leonard, Maurice and Gerald Ochs; and two sisters, Theresa and Geraldine Ochs.

She is survived by her son Keith Nevel and his wife Nancy; stepson James D. Schreiber and his wife Lonnie, all of Erie; another daughter-in-law Marlene Schreiber of Bear, Delaware; a sister, Mercedes Zenobi of Grove City, PA; and a brother, Clair Ochs and his wife Caroline of Milwaukee, WI. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Jeannette, Bridgette, Heather, Lisa, Doug, Carey, Scott, Brent, Jamie, Sarah and Julia, thirteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to offer heart-felt thanks to the staff of Westlake Woods for their kindness and compassion to Lucy.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue,) on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Saturday at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Julia Catholic Church, 3750 West Lake Road at 10am with Msgr. Bruce Allison officiating. Interment will follow in Erie Cemetery.
