Louise Stein

Louise Kruszewski Stein passed away on August 18, 2014 in Rochester, N.Y. She was born in Erie, Pa. on September 11, 1942 to the late Jerome and Virginia Kruszewski. She is predeceased by her sister, Anita Kruszewski DeRemer. She is survived by her loving husband, Jack Rollwagen of Brockport, NY ; her siblings, Jerry Kruszewski (Judy) of Harborcreek, PA; Mary Kraft (John) of Washington Crossing, PA and Karl Kruszewski of Wattsburg, PA. She was a devoted Aunt to Kate Snipes (Chris) of Washington, DC; Brian Kruszewski (Melissa) of Erie, PA; Amy Nolan (Joe) of Erie, PA; Mary-Lyn Kraft of Yardley, PA and Ken Kraft (Ingrid) of Langhorne, PA. She will be sadly missed by her Aunt Terry Watts of Rolling Hills, CA, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Louise was a graduate of Academy High School and Penn State University. She received a Master’s Degree in Anthropology from SUNY Buffalo, a Master of Library Science degree from Indiana University, and a PhD in Anthropology from SUNY Buffalo. She was a skilled educator and most recently taught gerontology at SUNY Upstate Medical Center’s Clinical Campus in Binghamton. Among her many accomplishments was a Fulbright pre-doctoral fellowship to conduct dissertation research on rural women’s health in Poland.
Louise began her world travels as a senior in college studying abroad at the University of Strasburg, France. She enjoyed experiencing many cultures and established life-long friendships throughout the world.
Louise and Jack built the home of their dreams in the middle of an apple orchard in Brockport, NY. In this nurturing environment, Louise was able to pursue her passions as a master gardener, excellent cook, and volunteer board member for several community organizations.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the extraordinary life of Louise Stein on Friday, September 5th at 10 am with a memorial service at 11:30 am at Burton Wintergreen Funeral Home, 2532 Norcross Rd, Erie, Pa. 16510
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emmaus Ministries, 345 E 9th St., Erie, Pa. 16503.
