Louis “Lou” Joseph Phillips, age 95, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Brevillier Village’s Ball Pavilion. He was born September 16, 1927 in Erie the son of the late Joseph and Angeline (DeFonzo) Phillips.
Lou was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School and served in the US Navy during WWII. Following the war, he became a proud letter carrier with the US Postal Service where he spent 34 years, retiring in 1989. After retirement, he was active as a volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital and the American Cancer Society. He was an avid sports fan and belonged to several local social clubs.
Lou loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who brought him much joy. He loved good food and if he said it was succulent, you knew it was good!
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Betty Jean (Mangold) Phillips who died in 1999; along with two sisters, Dolores Mannarelli and Eleanor Marucci.
Lou is survived by three sons; Joe Phillips (Renee), Tom Phillips, and Louis Phillips (Lisa) and a daughter, Cindy Mangiaracina (Dave), all of Erie. Also survived by 8 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lou also leaves a dear friend, Nancy Yost, who was an “angel” as far as being his companion, and for all her love and concern for him over the years.
Lou’s family would like to Thank the staff at Brevillier Village for the wonderful care and compassion shown to their father during his stay with them. He always had a smile and a wave to everyone he came in contact with.
Friends are invited to call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Rd. on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Thursday at 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am in St. Luke Catholic Church. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brevillier Village Patient Activity Fund, 5416 East Lake Rd., Erie, PA 16511.
