Lorraine Sauers

Lorraine E. “Lori” Matson Sauers RN, age 55 of McKean, passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Erie, PA on April 4, 1959, a daughter of Jeanne Schweitzer Matson and the late Earl Matson, Sr.

She was a graduate of St. Joseph Grade School, St. Benedict Academy High School and St. Vincent School of Nursing. Lori was employed at St. Vincent Health Center as a Registered Nurse for 39 ½ years until her illness forced her into early retirement.

Lori was a member of the Sunflower Club, South Erie Turners, VFW Post 740 and the Moose Club. She enjoyed line dancing and weekly lunches with her mom and favorite and most loving sister.

In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Michael; a niece, Janelle Matson; a brother-in-law, Michael Brown and her father-in-law, Gerry Sauers.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 30 years Joseph Sauers; daughter, Elizabeth Sauers, who was her pride and joy; and siblings Ernest (Jackie) Matson, Columbus, OH, Earl (Debbie) Matson, Erie; Suzanne Brown, Albion and John (Tina) Matson Fairview. She is further survived by god-children Shawn Matson, Joshua Brown and Adam Pap, brother and sister in laws; Susan and John Pap of Marquette, MI, Nancy and Donald Orr of Erie, John and Donna Sauers of Hudson, OH and Bob Sauers of Erie, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Friday from 2:00 pm till 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm till 9:00 pm and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Bread of Life Church, 147 West 24th Street on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Father Larry Richards presiding.
