LORRAINE KOEBLEY DAILEY
On November 30, 2014 Lorraine Lucille Mary Koebley Dailey joined her one true love, Paul E. Dailey, after 38 years of separation.
She was born in Warren, PA on September 7, 1921 to Frederick Jacob Koebley and Minnie Eldora Chrysthansia Larson Koebley, the second of four daughters. After attending Warren High School she worked for the American Chicle Chewing Gum Company as the "Chicklet Girl” to earn money to further her education. A year later she boarded the bus in Warren and went off to Erie to enroll in the St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. It was here that she met her husband to be, Paul Edward Dailey, whom she married on Sept 6, 1942.
She worked in various fields of nursing: General Duty at Warren General Hospital; Industrial Nursing at Sylvania and Erie Malleable; Geriatric Nursing at Sarah Reed and Presbyterian Lodge; and Home Health Nursing.
In her early 30’s she was seriously injured in an auto accident and was never supposed to walk again, but as in all her life's challenges she overcame and moved on. She and Paul delighted in their children. As a mother of 6, whose husband was often away for business, she still found time to serve as Home Service Director for United Cerebral Palsy. She and Paul were Founding Members of St. Jude the Apostle Parish and School and she was a member of the committee for their 50th Reunion. She served on the Boards at United Cerebral Palsy and Meals on Wheels, where she volunteered for over 20 years. She belonged to the St. Jude's Round Table.
Paul died in 1976 after a long battle with cancer. She later married Jack Mozdy, a longtime friend and neighbor. They enjoyed their silver years together until Jack passed in 2001.
Lorraine's principal joy was her family which has grown quite extensively and now includes 55 immediate members. Any get-together was always large, lively and full of love.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, her 2 sisters Beatrice Cook and Louise Patchen, and two nieces Toni Cook and Mary Lynn Cook.
She is survived by her youngest sister, Gloria Bean of Rome NY, her children, Mary Lou Eppolito (Vincent), David (Susan Hartwell), Susan Kelly (Edward), JP ( Penny Chapman), Jane ( James Fredrickson) and Peter (Joyce Cullinan), as well as 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter, as well many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was a wonderful woman. She had a profoundly happy marriage to Paul, the love of her life. She was completely devoted to her family and she was the center of every family gathering. She believed in doing the right thing. She was clever and witty and fun to the end of her 93 years. She died peacefully surrounded by those who loved her. She will be missed.
