Lonnie Loringer

November 25, 1941 — May 31, 2014

Lonnie Duane Loringer “Lon”, age 72 , of Erie passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 31st, 2014 at Presque Isle Rehab and Nursing Center following and extended illness.

He was born on Novermber 25th, 1941 in Erie, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Frank and Edith Lee Loringer. Lonnie attended Strong Vincent High School and went on to serve in the United State Marines.

Lonnie worked at Marx Toys, Bucyrus Erie for 17 years, Erie International Airport Security and later worked as a Gun Smith, repairing and selling guns until his retirement.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Darcy Simmons Loringer, whom he married on January 9th, 1965 after meeting working together at Marx’s Toys and went on to be married for 49 years. Three children: Christopher Loringer, of Erie, Erin Gallager, of Lakecity and Timothy Loringer (Fiancé Mark Helmer) of Millcreek. Two grandchildren: Kasey and Jordyn, of Lakecity. A sister: Marilyn Pongratz, of Erie. He is also survived by several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lonnie enjoyed working around this house on various home improvement/renovation projects. It was his skilled restoration projections that turned the house he shared with his family for more than 35 years into a home. Lonnie also enjoyed working on guns, Irish music and of course Irish whiskey. Lonnie was preceded in death by his beloved and faithful companion, a Rottweiler, Natasha “Tasha” his pride and joy.

Lonnie will always be remembered reciting one of his favorite Irish Blessings:

‘May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warmly upon your face and the rain fall softly on your land.

Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand…’

The family would like to thank Heartfelt Home Care, Presque Rehab and Nursing Center, Lakeland Hospice and VA Medical Center who provided comfort, support and care not only for Lonnie but his family too during his final days.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 602 W 10th Street Erie, on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of a brief prayer service at 5:00 p.m.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
