Lisa Rinderle, age 61, of Erie passed away peacefully on December 15, 2022. Lisa was born in Erie on October 22, 1961, the fourth child of Clara H. Rinderle and the late Robert E. Rinderle.
Angels never let you see their wings, but Lisa reminded us all of the essence of love. Even if you met her once, you became her friend. The next time she saw you, she would greet you by name with a smile and a big hug. She brightened the lives of everyone she met.
From her earliest days, Lisa enjoyed an active life. At the age of 3, she was enrolled at the Barber National Institute, leaving at 7 to enter public school. After graduating from McDowell High School in 1983, she attended night school there with teachers Mary Hoffman and Mary Ellen Lieb. Later, she would serve as a beloved teacher’s aide in Hoffman’s daytime classroom for students with special needs. Lisa also received job training at the Barber National Institute’s Lakefront Restaurant before becoming a 20-year employee of Perkins restaurant, where she was known and loved by both staff and customers.
Never shy of the spotlight, Lisa starred in many of the annual “Inspire” musicals along with her friends. Some of her most memorable performances included playing Maria in the “Sound of Music” and Rizzo in “Grease.”
Lisa was the treasurer of the AKTION Club, a member of Kiwanis Club of Erie, Club Erie, and was active in the MOVE Program at Erie Homes for Children and Adults.
A decorated Special Olympics athlete, Lisa travelled to England to represent the United States. She proudly brought home a silver medal in volleyball. In addition to competing in volleyball and speed walking, Lisa participated each year in the Gliding Stars ice skating show. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge for their love and care for the past four years, being her extended family when we couldn’t be there. Thank you to the UPMC Hamot 7th-floor angels for their compassion the past couple weeks.
Lisa is survived by her mother Clara Rinderle, her siblings: Gail (Bruce) Boyce, Lynn (Bill) Grant, Robert (Liz) Rinderle, Tim (Jennifer) Rinderle, Jill (Jeff) Wheeler, and Eric (Melissa) Rinderle, also many nieces, nephews, & cousins with whom Lisa shared her love.
