Linda Gidos

October 31, 1949 — September 30, 2021

Linda Gidos, 71, sadly passed from medical complications on September 30, 2021.  

Linda was the daughter of the late Jimmy Cioccio and Ginevra Cioccio. She grew up in Erie and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and later she attended St. Benedict's High school and graduated from Gannon University. She received her masters degree in Business Education at New York University.  She lived in Stamford Connecticut for 30 years where she taught at St. Mary’s High School and Norwalk Community College. She also taught quilting and was heavily involved in the Northern Star Quilt guild.  

On returning to Erie in 2002 she continued teaching at several local technical schools in the Erie area. She was the newsletter editor of The Hands All Around Erie’s Quilt Guild and founder of the St. Mary’s/St. Stan’s Prayer Shawl Ministry she helped to stitch the shawls which were then distributed by her and the group members to women and men undergoing treatment at local Erie hospitals, a comfort to all who needed love and hope, knowing they were not alone in their battles. 

Linda was known for her talent in quilting, donating time to the Norwalk Senior Center in Norwalk, CT where she spent over 20 years teaching seniors the art of quilting. A big lover of quilt shows, she traveled often to Lancaster, Pa, Hershey, Pa, Columbus, Ohio, and had spent a good part of her life making quilts for auctions at The Stamford Museum And Nature Center and other charities. She has made countless beautiful quilts for family members and was known to never sell a quilt but “Give them with her love.” 

Linda is survived by her husband, Peter Mark Gidos and daughter, Elizabeth Susan Gidos and son, Joseph James Gidos and grandson, Jamal Gidos, her two brothers, Louie and Jimmy Cioccio and sister-in-laws, Kathy Cioccio,  Miros, Cioccio Peggy Fries, Joan Klos, Catherine Sherman, the late Barbra Preston and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. 

Funeral services were held privately at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th St.

Donations may be made to the St. Stans Prayer Shawl Ministry or Hands All Around Erie Quilt Guild.
