Linda Mae Collin, 77, of Erie, died Sunday, December 22, 2013 at her residence. She was born in Erie on May 14, 1936, the only child of Eric Evert Collin, a native of Finland, and Ingrid Pearson Collin who are both deceased.
Linda was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School, class of 1954, and received her B.A. degree from Mercyhurst College, class of 1958. Her master's degree in Art Education was from Edinboro University in 1971. She also studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art.
Her teaching career began with three years in the Wattsburg Elementary Schools. Following that she spent her career of forty years teaching at all the Millcreek Township Elementary Schools.
Linda retired in 2000 and taught part time at her Alma Mater Mercyhurst College.
She is survived by many cousins in Finland and in the U.S. including Mary P. Kolb and husband Ronald, Lucia P. Doyle and husband Timothy, and Charlotte P. Mashyna and husband Michael, all of Erie. Also surviving is her beloved Sheltie "Lexie".
Linda belonged to Svea Lodge No. 296 Vasa Order of America and was the Vasa Star reporter and photographer. She was a member of Luther Memorial Church, American Association of University Women (50 year honorary life member), Flagship Niagara League, the Erie County Historical Society, Erie Art Museum, and P.A.S.R. (PA Association of School Retirees).
Friends may attend a memorial service Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Luther Memorial Church, 225 W. 10th St. Private burial was held in Erie Cemetery. Friends may make donations in Linda's memory to the Humane Society of NW Pa., 2407 Zimmerly Road, Erie, PA 16506.
