Libby Penn

Libby K. Penn, age 98, of 2323 Edinboro Road, Erie, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 at her residence.

She was born in Lawrence, MA on November 16, 1915 the daughter of the late Samuel and Ethel Markell Kates.

Libby was a graduate of Lawrence High School and Simmons College.

She was a homemaker.

Libby was a member of Anshe Hesed Sisterhood Congregation and a life member of Hadassah.

She was devoted to her family, she loved to knit afghans for everyone.

She volunteered with her husband for the Meal on Wheels program.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Kates Rosen and Sylvia Berman; three brothers, Eliot, Louis, and Stuart Kates.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, William B. Penn; a daughter, Laurie Penn of Southfield, MI; a son, Roger Penn and his wife Gerri of Atlanta, GA; a sister in law Lenore Kates of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; further survived by five grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be at the Anshe Hesed Temple, 930 Liberty Street, on Monday at 2pm. with Rabbi John Bush officiating. Burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
