Leroy Valimont

LeRoy J. Valimont Sr. age 92, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Pleasant Ridge Manor.

Born in Clearfield, PA on February 1st, 1923 the son of Edgar and Sarah Royer Valimont.

He graduated from Academy High School, attended Gannon College and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WW II from 1943-1945, from 1945 - 1948 in the U.S. Army Reserves and from 1948 - 1952 during the Korean Conflict. For his distinguished service he was awarded three bronze stars as well as other theater service medals.

LeRoy was employed at Parker White Metal in Fairview until he retired in 1987. LeRoy was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. He was a Eucharistic Minister there and part of the LIFTS Group.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Carmella Bongiovanni Valimont in 1979, granddaughter Kristin Noelle Hanhold and daughter in law Jory Valimont.

He is survived by his son Lee Valimont of Erie, daughter Nina Hanhold and husband Vinnie of Fairlawn, OH and daughter Mary Ellen Valimont of Erie.

He is further survived by four grandchildren, Michael (Kylee) Hanhold of Bowling Green, OH, Brian Hanhold of Novi, MI, Stephen Hanhold of Fairlawn, OH and Stacey Valimont of Erie. LeRoy also is survived by three great grandsons, Jase Michael, Zeke Vincent and Oliver Jack Hanhold.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Sunday , from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Prayers will begin at 9:15 am Monday at the funeral home, family and friends are then invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Church 2401 W. 38th Street, Erie, PA 16506 on Monday at 10:00 am with Fr. Glenn Whitman Celebrant. Burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery with full military honors.
