Leroy Chatman, age 74, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, at his residence.
Leroy was born on May 15, 1947, in Crandall, Mississippi, the son to late Weston and Rosie Lee West Chatman.
He graduated from Shirley Owens High School in Quitman, MS. Leroy was employed at EMI for 28 years before he retired. He was an avid drag racing fan and he built his own engines for several cars that he raced on a regular basis at Lucky Drag Strip. He was known as the neighborhood mechanic and was always willing to repair anyone's car that needed it. He loved watching racing on TV.
In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Chatman; one sister, Linda Chatman Mook; and two brothers, Marshall Chatman and Charles Chatman.
Leroy leaves behind to cherish his memory, his stepson; Lovell Mitchell; his brothers, John (Teresa) Chatman, Weston (Janet) Chatman, Jr., Benny (Lynnette) Mitchell, all of Erie, and Eddie (Natalie) Chatman, of Texas; a sister, Eloise (Alir) Carter, of Erie; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc., Downtown, 602 W. 10th St, on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 12:00 P.M. officiated by Pastor Joyce Moses from Greater Bethlehem Temple Church. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Per family’s request, masks will be required.
