LeRoy Edward Burton, age 89, of Erie, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024 at UPMC Hamot Hospital. He was born in Eldred, PA on November 2, 1934 to the late Howard and Gertrude Morris Burton.
LeRoy served his country in the United States Army, until he was honorably discharged in 1963. He then began his career as a Tool and Die Maker working for a few companies, finally retiring from The Plastek Group in 2000. He was an avid hunter, bowler, and motorcycle racer. LeRoy enjoyed powerlifting and even set world championship records at age 82.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Burton, his daughters Susan Vargulich (Timothy), and Debra Schroeck. LeRoy is further survived by his grandchildren, Matthew Schneider, Ashley Whinnery (Dennis), and two great-grandchildren Carson, and Braxton Whinnery. He is survived by his siblings, Wade Burton (Deanna), Richard Burton (Janet), Eunice Sandrick (Tom), by a sister-in-law Linda Dodson (Ronald), and a brother-in-law Gregory Guarino (Rose). LeRoy is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and a countless number of very special friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Paul and Howard Russell Burton; and by his brother-in-law James Guarino (Ramona).
Friends are invited to call on the family Wednesday, March 27, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service Inc. West Ridge 3801 W. 26th Street, Erie. A prayer service will be held there Thursday, March 28 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
