Lawrence Thompson

Lawrence Ervin Thompson age 83, of Erie, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Larry was born in Linesville, PA on November 16, 1940 a son of the late Harold and Lovina Heath Thompson.

After graduating at the top of his High School class, Larry went on to attend Kent State University and Gannon College. He began his successful career as a Computer Analyst and worked at Finestra for many years.

Larry was a longtime member of Lakewood United Methodist Church and devoted Christian, where he taught Sunday school for over 35 years and taught an adult class for 20 years. He enjoyed all of his students throughout the years and would always comment that every student was his favorite. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great story teller. Larry even submitted some punch lines in to Frank and Earnest, which were selected to be run in the comic strip.

He was an avid reader, sometimes even reading 3 or 4 books at a time. His mind was like a filing cabinet, and he was always taking notes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three nephews, Mark and Greg Powers and Scott Smith; brother-in-law Wayne Smith and his wife Kathy; and a sister-in-law Deanna Bailey.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jerolyn “Jerri” Smith Thompson; a son, Daniel Thompson; two sisters, Beth Powers and Ellen Frank (Denny); six nieces, Sharon Yost, Julie (Phillip) David, Casey Frank, Kym (William) Gack, Linda (Daniel) Surles and Amy Smith; and two nephews, David and Wayne Powers.

Arrangements are under the care of Burton Quinn Scott Funeral and Cremation Services Inc. West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th. Street, Erie.
