Lawrence Johnson Jr.

Larry Johnson, Jr. age 75, of Erie, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. 

He was born on June 30, 1949, in Kane, PA, a son of the late Janet (Dahle) and Lawrence R. Johnson, Sr.

Lawrence was a dedicated employee of the highway department of PA and Thrifty Cleaners. He completed his dream of becoming a firefighter and served the City of Erie for 32 years, during which time he was promoted to Captain, Chief Fire Inspector and was elected to Union President. After his retirement in 2004, he became President of the Retirees and took pride in volunteering at the Firefighter Museum. Aside from reading, he also enjoyed traveling, visiting different casinos, shopping on Amazon and going to lunch at GECAC. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club and East Erie Moose Lodge.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenny Johnson. 

He leaves behind to cherish him in memory, his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Lou (Dougherty) Johnson; sons, Larry Johnson III (Carrie), of Erie and Louis Johnson, (Marni), of Cape Coral, FL and five grandchildren, Amanda, Chandlyr, Zac, Tyler and Taryn. He is further survived by 7 great-grandchildren, Abigail, Quentin, Cooper. Oliver, Lily, Jax and Gabriella; a sister, Chris Buser (Richard) and brothers, Carl and Phillip Johnson.

Friends are invited to call on the family at Burton Quinn-Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc. Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 5:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow in Whispering Pines Cremation Garden.
