Lawrence Eakin

Lawrence Glenn “Larry” Eakin, age 89, formerly of Charlotte Street, died Sunday, February 28, 2021 at PA Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home, Erie, Pa.

He was born in Utica, PA on May 16, 1931, a son of the late Elmer and Edith Crawford Eakin.

Larry graduated from Franklin High School and completed ICS courses after graduation. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War.

He was a salesman for Kim Kraft Inc. for 36 years, retiring in 1996; and later worked for G.J. Miller Auto parts.

Larry was a charter member of Church of the Cross; and past Session Member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Church of the Cross.

He was an avid hunter and golfer, serving as Marshall at the Erie Charity Classic Golf Tournament.

Larry was a member of VFW Bill Simpson Post 470, Siebenbuerger Club, Koinonia #15 and the USS Graffias Navy Reunion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Hoover; three brothers, Leroy, Wayne and Harry Eakin; and two brothers-in law, Eugene Hoover and Frank Murdock.

Larry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Adah G. McConnell Eakin; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Karle of Erie; two sisters, Sara Barnes and her husband Arthur and Mary Murdock; brother, Robert Eakin and his wife Carol; and sister-in-law, Barbara Eakin.  He is further survived by his grandchildren, Sarah J. Lewis and her husband Jason and Brian L. Karle and his wife Amanda; great grandchildren who affectionately called him “Papa”, Jordan A. Kraus, Emily Lee Karle and Lucas Michael Karle; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Drew Himes of Church of the Cross officiating.  Graveside committal services for Adah and her husband, Lawrence will be conducted on May 26th at 11 am at Millcreek Cemetery in Utica, PA officiated by the Reverend James McCormick.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burton Quinn-Scott Cremation & Funeral Services, Inc., West Ridge, 3801 West 26th Street, Erie.
