Lawrence D'Ambrosio

January 26, 1932 — December 28, 2021

Lawrence “Larry” Anthony D’Ambrosio, age 89, passed away on December 28, 2021 in Bolingbrook, Illinois.

He was born on January 26, 1932 in McKeesport to the late Salvatore and Rosina Guarino D’Ambrosio.

Larry grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania along with four siblings where he was loved, learned his work ethic, and developed many of his favorite stories (the story of him driving a car at age 5 was one of his best). He graduated from Academy High School in 1949 and attended college at Gannon University in Erie, PA where he received a BS in Accounting and Finance. He joined the U.S. Army in 1953 and then was transferred to the U.S. Air Force serving 2 years during the Korean War. Larry loved sharing stories of his adventures overseas and the time he spent visiting his extended family in Italy. After leaving the military in 1955, he attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Law graduating in 1958 where he received a Juris Doctor degree in Law. Larry began practicing law in Erie, PA in 1959 until he retired in 2015 after 56 years. On June 10, 2009 Larry was honored by the Pennsylvania Bar Association for outstanding leadership in the legal profession and longstanding membership in the association at the annual meeting in Pittsburgh. On December 10, 2009 he was presented a plaque in recognition of his 50 years of outstanding service to the Erie County Bar Association, the Courts and our Community. He was a licensed real estate broker who owned and operated Erie Mortgage Corporation and Price Real Estate where he generated many mortgages helping Northwest Savings Association move into Erie County from Warren, PA. With many prominent business men in Erie County, Larry helped form First United National Bank of Erie from the First National Bank of Fryburg, PA. After tennis great Billie Jean King beat Bobby Riggs in the Battle of the Sexes on national TV, Larry, with Charles Morgan, Edward Trimmer and Billie Jean King formed and franchised the Billie Jean King Tennis Centers in Pennsylvania, Michigan and New York.

Larry deeply loved and cherished his family. He married Kaye Banister in 1963 in Erie, PA. They were happily married for 37 years until her death in 2000. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Salvatore, his mother, Rosina, his sisters, Mary Tassone and Rose Rizzo and his brother Attorney Nicholas D’Ambrosio. After retiring from law, Larry moved to Illinois to spend time with his family. He developed a community at Lincolnwood Place and spent time watching dance recitals and sporting events.

Larry is survived by his sons Jay D’Ambrosio and his wife Amy of Cranberry, PA and their children Luke, Jack and Trace; Adam D’Ambrosio and his wife, Brenna of Frankfort, IL and their children Kathryn, Sophia and Lucy; his sister Antoinette Greaca of Largo, Florida; and several of his nieces and nephews, along with his extended family, Mary Beth Behan and her daughter, Hannah Sherwin.

Private services will be held with burial in Fairview Cemetery.
