Laurence Dedinsky

December 31, 1946 — April 28, 2018

Laurence Joseph Dedinsky age 72, of Millcreek, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at St. Vincent Medical Center.

He was born in Edinboro and lived most of his life in Erie. He was the son of the late Joseph Paul and Wanda Szuminski Dedinsky.

Larry graduated from Holy Family Grade School and Cathedral Prep High School.

He enlisted with the United States Marine Corps in 1966 and served with the infantry in Vietnam. He was wounded in combat during the TET Offensive in 1968 and received a Purple Heart Medal.

Larry worked for the Perry Construction Group as a Carpenter and Carpenter Foreman, and was a member of the Carpenters Local Union 81.

He was a member of the J.O.Y. Senior Center where he had many good friends. He belonged to the Walnut Creek Rifle Club and enjoyed hiking and camping.

Larry’s deep faith allowed him to warmly embrace his gift of lovingly caring for family, friends, and anyone in need. His life was a beautiful witness of service to God, his fellow man, and to his Country. He was a true gentleman in every way.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a nephew Joseph Thomas Dedinsky.

He is survived by a brother, Thomas Dedinsky and Sharon Schwabeck of Ripley, NY; a sister, Patti McAndrew and her husband Terry of Edinboro; his uncle, Joseph Szuminski and his wife Dolores of Cleveland, OH; nieces, Carla Dedinsky of Northeast and Brianna McAndrew of Edinboro; cousins, Bernadette Ashley, John DedinskyJr. , Denise Puening, Robert Dedinsky, Carol Wilkins, Gary Szuminski, and Mary Lu Onofrio; and great nephews, Gavin Dedinsky, Cody Jones and Gabriel (David) Myers.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church 128 Sunset Dr., Edinboro, PA 16412 on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Daniel Hoffman celebrant. Burial to follow in St. James Cemetery with full Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Cleveland Clinic Cancer Foundation 10201 Carnegie Ave, CA Building, Cleveland, OH 44195 or to Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church 128 Sunset Dr., Edinboro, PA 16412.

Funeral Arrangements are under the care of the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506.
