Larry James Meals

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Larry James Meals, 77, of Erie, PA. Larry passed away peacefully at home, on January 3, 2025. 

Larry was born on September 30, 1947 to parents Dolores and Kenneth Meals in Grove City, PA. After Larry graduated from Grove City High School in 1967, he began working at Erie Bronze and Aluminum as a moldmaker, where he worked for 35 years. In his retirement, he worked for First Student as an aide, as well as in his neighborhood as the Park Maintenance Supervisor. He was known to everyone as a “professional” handyman/Mr. Fix It. He was a grandfather/father figure to everyone who met him. 

Larry met the love of his life, Jane Meals (Kreiter) in 1967. They were your textbook high school sweethearts. Larry and Jane were married in 1969, and had two daughters, Jennifer Fohner and Stephanie Chaney.  

Larry spent much of his free time working on projects at home, or in “The Barn.” He was fond of woodworking, hunting, fishing, coloring, and of course spending time with his family and close friends. 

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Dolores and Kenneth Meals. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jane Meals, his older brother Kenneth Meals Jr., his daughters Jennifer (Mark L.) Fohner and Stephanie Chaney (Mike Zochowski), grandchildren Kyle Fohner (Katie Oswalt), Zoë Chaney (Brandon Connors), Olivia Chaney (Jacob Boam), and Sophie Chaney (Taylor Mielke), and his best pal, his great-grandson Levi James Fohner.  

Calling hours will be held at Burton Quinn-Scott Funeral Home, West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th St., on Wednesday January 8th, from 3:00-6:00 pm, with a service to follow.
