Kum Cha Hwang Miller, age 58, of Erie passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016. She was born February 23, 1958 in Seoul, South Korea the daughter of the late Ui Yong Hwang and Hyeun Hee Hoa. A longtime resident of Erie, she and her husband Gary owned and operated the Sandbar Draft House & Grille on West 8th street. It was there that Kum’s love for people stood out. She would welcome all with a huge smile and greeting and made you immediately feel at home. Every time you saw her, she would brighten up your day. She loved to watch people enjoy themselves and was always the perfect host. Proud of her heritage, Kum loved to teach her grandchildren about Korean cooking and traditions. She also loved her pets: Max, Daisy, and JC; flowers, especially growing orchids, and cooking where she was especially known for her famous eggrolls.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ilyun Hwang.
Kum is survived by her husband of 26 years, Gary; her son, Roy and Har mo ni (grandmother in Korean) to Landon and Emory. She is the sister of Kum Yeun Hwang, Hyeun Yeun Hwang, and Dam Yeun Hwang. She is also survived by several sisters and brothers-in-law along with nieces, nephews, and dear friends including Kyong Sun ”Sue” Cody and Kim Chandley.
Her smile, energy and enthusiasm for life were infectious and will live on through all the lives she touched.
Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Wednesday from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral services and burial will be private.
