Kimberly Rae Gorr-Scott age 59, of Millcreek, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2015 at St. Vincent Medical Center after a long and difficult illness with her loving mother at her side.
She was born in Erie on October 30, 1956 the daughter of James Richard Gorr and Beverly Conboy Gorr both of Erie.
She graduated from East High School and then went on to receive her BA in History and Sociology from American University in Washington, Dc and then went on to receive her teaching degree from Edinboro University. Kimberly then began an 18 year teaching career in the Erie School District under Dr. James Barker. During her time at East, she was a mentor to many. She was forced to retire due to an ongoing illness. Her thoughts were always thankful to the great Cleveland Clinic and the wonderful care they were able to give her throughout the years to keep her going. She also could not have survived it all without her Doctor and best friend since the age of 12, Dr. Dennis Scully.
During her teaching years, she was very active in creating the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH being an avid fan of Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne and John Lennon. Kimberly was a passionate political activist.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Naomi and Gerald Conboy and Victor and Lillian Gorr; and two uncles, Donald and Danny Gorr.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her close friend and companion, Keith Baker who was always by her side; two uncles, Craig Conboy of Richmond, VA and Kelly Conboy of Erie; and two aunts, Carol Conboy of Baltimore, MD and Dolly Gorr Pito of Berea, OH. She will also be sadly missed by her loving and wonderful cousins.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral home 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until the time of service at 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cleveland Clinic 2049 E. 100th Street, Cleveland, OH 44195 or to the American Heart Association, 823 Filmore Ave, Erie, PA 16505.
