Kimberly “Kym” Burgert Hummel, of Erie, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, after a brief illness.
She was born on December 24, 1964, in Bellefonte, PA, and spent her first two years at Penn State where her parents were students. Once when her mom took her to class, she walked to the front of the room, climbed on the professor’s lap and sat there while he continued to teach.
In 1967, the family moved to Kane where she graduated from Kane High School. She went on to earn her cosmetology certificate in Erie. Kym relocated to California for several years and was the first to tell you that she left part of heart in California. She had a variety of jobs during her life, from caring for special needs adults to restaurant work. Anything involving people was her greatest enjoyment.
Kym is survived by her daughter, Jade (Nate) Koehle, of Erie; parents, Arnold “Tad” and Joanne “Jody” Burgert, of Utica, PA and brothers, Tad (Lorena), of Chula Vista, CA and Derek (Jessica), of Pittsburgh. She loved her granddaughters, Kennedy and Ada Koehle; nieces, Paola and Ella and nephews, Andre and Jack. She had great affection for her Burgert and Cree aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held in Utica at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc. West Ridge, 3801 West 26th St., Erie, PA 16506.
