Kenneth Lenus Johnson born April 26, 1922 in Erie, PA to C. Lenus Johnson and Agnes (Johnson) Johnson died in Northbrook, IL on January 3, 2025.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Swedish Ev. Mission Church in Erie, PA, a member of Calvary Covenant Church and an Associate member of the Church of the Cross in Erie. After he and his wife moved to Northbrook, IL in 2000 they became members at the Northbrook Covenant Church.
He married Yvonne (Shaw) March 31, 1945. They were married 68 years and raised their family Donald Johnson, Roger Johnson, Brian (Terri) Johnson and Darlene (Tim) McNaughton. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth A. Johnson, 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and two nephews.
Ken graduated from Academy High School in 1940, entered the Tool Maker Apprentice Course at Reed Mfg. Co. and graduated in 1944. He served in the Navy (WW II) from 1944-1946 AOM 3/C. He returned to Reed Mfg. till 1948. He was a Tool and Die Engineer at Marx Toy Company from 1948-1978. He finished his career at Erisco Ind. as the Operation Manager from 1978-1988.
Ken enjoyed playing and coaching sports. He played baseball with the Ararat Cigar Team in the Erie Lake Shore League. He played softball and basketball in the Industrial Leagues with Reed Mfg. and Marx Toys, as well as church leagues. He coached Little League Teams and at one time was the President of Harborcreek Little League. He also coached many church teams.
Ken was an active church volunteer. He served as Sunday School teacher, Church Chairman, Trustee, Deacon, Youth counselor, Camp counselor and Chairman of the Board for Mission Meadows Bible Camp in NY.
He was a member of the Board of Covenant Manor in Jamestown, NY, The Vasa Club and a member of the Erie Lions Club, where he also served as President.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne (Shaw) Johnson; an infant son Kevin Mark Johnson; brother, Glenn Johnson; sister-in-law Ellie Johnson and daughter-in-law, Jeanne Johnson.
Friends may attend a graveside service at Erie Cemetery (Section 16), 2116 Chestnut St., Erie PA on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11:00 A.M.
