Kenneth (Kiril) Legenzoff

March 23, 1923 — November 2, 2018

Kenneth (Kiril) Legenzoff, age 95, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2018 at Sarah Reed Senior Living Center of Erie.

He was born in Erie in 1923, the son of immigrants, the late Anisim and Xenia (Anna) Legenzoff. His family was one of the original members of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity.

Ken grew up during the depression, shining shoes and selling newspapers around Perry Square when he was very young and later working on the family farm harvesting wood in McKean.  He served in the US Army during World War II, as a Sergeant in the Quartermaster Corps, and was stationed in Belgium.   After the war he worked at Talon, where he met his future wife and the love of his life, Lisa (Elizabeth) Cassano.  Later he worked for LORD Corporation for 30 years as a Rubber technologist. He was often the one picked to train young college graduates hired by LORD Corp. He was always a hard worker and owned/managed an apartment building while working and built much of the custom, hardwood furniture in their home.  After selling his apartment house, he moved his family to Summit Township where his three children grew up.  To them he stressed the value of education. He was a great guy who was always ready with a joke. He lived in Summit until moving to senior living centers.

Ken was one of nine children.  He and his brothers competed successfully for several years in the Brothers Bowling Tournament.  In addition to being a good bowler, Ken was an avid golfer and won several local amateur tournaments. He was also a founding member of the CYS Club.

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Lisa Legenzoff, a sister, Mary Carian and six brothers; Ace, James, Michael, Gregory, Alex, and Eric Legenzoff.

He is survived by his daughter, Christine Troutman, and her husband, Barry Gray of Erie, two sons; Keith Legenzoff and his wife Linda of Tennessee, and Kevin Legenzoff and his wife Terri of Missouri. He is the brother of Jack Legenzoff of Erie and is further survived by four grandchildren; Rosie Hill, Jared Legenzoff, Zachary Legenzoff and Derek Legenzoff, and a long list of nieces and nephews, many of whom considered him their favorite uncle.

Friends are invited to call at Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th and Liberty St. on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend Funeral Services at the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity, 251 East Front St. on Friday at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. John Divine Cemetery.
