Katie Terry

July 18, 1928 — January 19, 2015

Katie Smart Nickson Terry went home to be with her heavenly Father on January 19, 2015. Born on July 18, 1928 in Shubuta, MS Katie was the daughter of the late John Henry Smart and Mary McCoy Smart.

Katie was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School. She had been employed by the former LEIR as a Rehabilitation Technician in the head trauma unit. After retirement Katie worked as a volunteer at the Martin Luther King Center. Katie was a member of Shiloh Baptist Missionary Church where she once served on the Deaconess Board, Sunday school, Vacation Bible School; she was a member of the Senior Choir (under the direction of her sister-in-law the late Mrs. Irma E (Terry) James.

Katie’s hobbies included reading mystery novels, crossword puzzles and crocheting, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren. She was a fan of the TV shows Murder She Wrote and Law in Order. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, the late Delta A Terry Jr., (who passed away on May 19, 2004), Aunt Katie D Boyd, one son John Albert Terry, two grandsons Deron A, and David L Terry, two brothers, Matthew Nickson and John Henry Smart.

Katie leaves behind to forever cherish her memory six daughters, Kathryn, Jacquelyn, Denise, Pamela, Patricia, and Priscilla, one son Delta A. III. She had 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Calling hours are Friday, January 23, 2015 between the hours of 2 pm and 4pm and 6 pm to 8 pm at Burton Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10 Street, Erie, PA 16502. Funeral services will be held Saturday January 24, 2015 at 11:00 am at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church 901 East 5th St., Erie, PA 16507. The Reverend Anthony G. Harris officiating, Bishop Clifton McNair will deliver the eulogy.
