Katie "Patsy" (Bassham) Bell

February 9, 1953 — July 4, 2024

Katie “Patsy” (Bassham) Bell, age 71, of Erie, completed her earthly excursion on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at UPMC Hamot Hospital to begin her experience of eternal life with Jesus Christ by the determination of God, our Heavenly Father. She was born in Erie, February 9, 1953, daughter of the late Thaddeus Bassham and Katie Butler.

Patsy’s compassion and concern for others lead her to work as a Nurse’s Aide at Pleasant Ridge Manor for over 40 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, scrapbooking, watching soap operas, doing yardwork, traveling and keeping up with modern technology, especially Apple products. She also enjoyed cooking and baking for the holidays. She was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Lakers fan. She was actively involved with her church, Shiloh Baptist for much of her life and later attended Second Baptist Church where she became a member of the choir before returning to Shiloh. She attended church faithfully until her health began to fail and would watch the services via livestream during and after the pandemic.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Willie “Hayes” Bell and Felicia Belle.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband of 45 years, Eddie Bell Sr. and her two children, Melissa Bell of Erie and Eddie Bell II of Pittsburgh. She is further survived by her brother, Ronal Bassham, a close cousin Debbie Sansom, several other cousins, nieces, nephews, numerous friends, as well as her loving church family. Patsy is also survived by her childhood friend, Diane Stewart, who were so close they were like sisters, as well as her close friend, Sharon Smith.

She will be greatly missed by family and friends, but the impact she had on everyone will be everlasting. She will always be remembered for her strength, commitment to family and friends, as well as, her compassion and concern for others.

A very special thank you to Dr. Seastone and Dr. Kovacs for their care and concern over the years.

Friends are invited to call on the family Friday, July 12, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 901 East 5th Street, Erie, and on Saturday July 13, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Anthony G. Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery.
