Kathryn N. Stuart, age 95, of Aurora, Ohio, formerly of Winnebago, IL and Erie, PA, passed away on August 24, 2022 at Anna Maria of Aurora.
She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 30, 1927, a daughter of the late Albert and Anna (Pitini) Nigrelli. Kathryn was a 1944 graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City, PA. In 1945 she entered the United States Cadet Nurse Corps and finished 1948. In 1948 she graduated from The Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing of Pittsburgh, PA. Following graduation she worked for two years serving the Hupa Valley tribe of Northern California and the Tacoma Indian Hospital in Tacoma Washington. In 1952 she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Greenville College in Greenville, IL.
She worked as a nurse in Pittsburgh, the Administrator/Director of Nursing at Erie Infants Home, and owned and operated the Alpine Manor Nursing Home in Erie, PA until 1986.
Kathryn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant where she was a choir member and active in many church programs. Kathryn also served as the President of the Erie County Medical Auxiliary. After her husband died, she moved to Winnebago, Illinois to be with her daughter, where she became a member of Middle Creek Presbyterian Church, sang in the choir and received an Honorary Life Membership of Presbyterian Women in the PC (USA).
In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Stuart, M.D. whom she married on June 16, 1955.
She is survived by a daughter, the Reverend Dr. Anita L. Stuart-Steva and her husband Patrick Steva of Winnebago, IL; a son, John A. Stuart, M.D. of Pittsburgh, PA; two grandchildren, Christopher R. Steva of Herndon, VA and Elizabeth Anderson and her husband Steven of Macedonia, OH; three great grandsons Matthew, John, and Adam of Macedonia, OH; and a sister, Frances McCullough and her husband Duane of Hermitage, PA.
Friends are invited to call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 West 26th Street on Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. until time of memorial service at 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
