Kathryn Ann (Genck) Murray, age 98, of Erie, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Saturday, July 31, 2021, at the PA Soldier’s and Sailor’s Home.
She was born January 17, 1923 in Erie, PA, the daughter of the late Harrison and Mae (Connell) Genck.
Katie Ann grew up in St. Patrick’s Parish. She was a devote Catholic and, along with her dearest husband Paul Joseph, was a founding member of St. Jude’s Parish where they remained active for many decades. Katie Ann graduated from Strong Vincent High School and remained active as Treasurer for all their high school reunions. Katie worked at City Hall and then for First National and PNC Banks in the Trust Department. During her life she demonstrated an overwhelming love for family and loved spending and sharing time with all of them. Her very large extended family of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews were a constant source of joy. She was a gracious hostess and caring friend. She enjoyed travel and vacations with her husband and family. She enjoyed many memorable times with family at the beach and cottages which brought her much happiness. Katie Ann was the Matriarch of her family and will be forever and dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Joseph Murray, her two sisters: Sally Genck and Shirley Mae Heidt (William), her brother Charles Genck, and granddaughter Maggie Mae Murray.
She is survived by three sons: Dennis P. Murray (Sherry) of Groton, MA and son Brendan; Brian M. Murray of Erie and daughter Alexandra of Ocean City MD and son Brian, and Terrence J. Murray (Joyce) of Fredricksburg VA and sons Ryan and Paul (Shelby) of Fredricksburg VA and great-grandsons Jaxson and Owen, along with her dear sister-in-law Nancy Genck (Charles)…. Along with so many, many treasured cousins.
Katie Ann’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful and compassionate nurses, aides, and staff at the Pennsylvania Soldier’s and Sailor’s Home (Erie,PA). They were especially gracious and helpful during our recent COVID challenges enabling us to communicate with Katie Ann throughout the quarantine.
Friends may call at the Quinn Funeral Home, W. 9th and Liberty St., Erie, on Wednesday, August 4th from 3-7PM, and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Thursday at 10:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at the St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 2801 West 6th Street, Erie PA. Burial in Trinity Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Barber National Institute, 100 Barber Place, Erie, PA 16507 in Katie Ann’s name.
