Kathleen A. McCloskey

Kathleen A. McCloskey, age 76, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at her residence, after a courageous battle with ALS.  

She was born in Erie on August 9, 1947, a daughter of the late James T. and Marjorie Haas McCloskey.  

Kathy was a graduate of Mercyhurst Prep and Edinboro University with her master’s degree in Elementary Education.  She was employed as an elementary teacher and a Reading Specialist for various parochial and public schools throughout her career.  Kathy was co-owner of Midtown Motel & Apartments for 14 years alongside her brother Jim, after their father passed away in 1978.  Kathy was a member of Our Lady of Peace Church and past member of St. Julia’s Church. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed many good times with her family and friends.  She loved to laugh at get togethers.

Kathy is survived by her daughters; Kristin Ann McCloskey of The Colony, TX, and Soni M. McCloskey of Erie.  She is further survived by her siblings: Eileen Olinger (Richard) of Fairview, Patricia Bogart (Bruce), James McCloskey (Pam), Thomas McCloskey, all of Erie, many nieces and nephews and many treasured friends.

She was proud that she helped to carry on the family business.  She especially enjoyed being with children, whether as a teacher, a tutor, a foster parent and a proud parent of two daughters. A special thanks to my family, friends and daughter Soni, for the special care she lovingly gave me. 

Friends may call at Burton Quinn-Scott Funeral Home, West Ridge, 3801 W. 26^th St., at Powell Ave., on Wednesday, May 22 from 5 until 7 and are invited to attend a funeral mass held at St. Peter’s Cathedral, 230 W. 10^th St., Erie, PA 16501 on Thursday, May 23 at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
