Katherine Middendorf

Katherine M. Imig Middendorf, age 103, formerly of Girard, passed into the arms of our Blessed Lord on April 1, 2017 at Fairview Manor.

Katherine was born May 18, 1913 in Platea, PA, daughter of the late Hugo and Mabel Pelham Imig.

She was a long-time member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard and in fact, the oldest member of the Parish. Katherine's early life was centered in show business throughout parts of OH, NY, and PA with the Pelham Players. Marrying Barney Middendorf, she settled in Girard with him to raise their family. She was very active in volunteer work in Girard in St. John's Parish, The American Red Cross, the (West County) YMCA, and the Elk Valley Garden Club.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Francis (Barney) Middendorf, as well as her sons John Middendorf and James Middendorf, and brothers, Paul Imig and Otto Imig.

Katherine is survived by her daughter Mary Kay Borkowski of Girard, her son William (Patricia) Middendorf of Mechanicsburg, PA, daughter-in-law Linda Middendorf of Lakeland, Florida; grandchildren Michael (Joanne) Middendorf of Powell, OH, Mary Colleen (Trey) McCann of Westminster, MD, Mark Middendorf of Arlington, VA, Patricia Middendorf of Arlington, VA, Jennifer (Tim) Fails of Girard, Matthew (Aimee) Mikovich of Erie, Michelle (Brian) Treakle of Locust Grove, VA, and Erica (Zack) Oshlick of Pittsburgh, PA, and 13 great grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East in Girard on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and are invited to a Mass of Christian burial Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Olin Ave, Girard with Celebrant Fr. Bill Miller.

Memorial contributions in Katherine’s honor may be made to the Emmaus Soup Kitchen, 218 East 11th Street, Erie, PA 16503 and the Rice Avenue Community Public Library, 705 Rice Avenue, Girard, PA 16417.

Katherine’s family would like to express their gratitude to the caring staff at Fairview Manor for their kindness and love shown to Katherine.
