Karen Lynn Levick Carter, of Sherman Oaks, California, died Monday May 17, 2021 at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center. The daughter of Philip and Ruth Reiner Levick, she was born in Canton, Ohio on August 3, 1944. She was a graduate of Academy High School, Erie, Pennsylvania, Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. In addition to teaching in Warren, Ohio she was an active member of the congregations of Beth Israel Temple, Warren, Ohio and Temple Anshe Hesed, Erie, Pennsylvania.
With a big smile and engaging personality, Karen quickly made friends and had the unique ability to make everyone feel like they were her favorite. Her biggest smiles were reserved for her true favorites, her three granddaughters, Ofilia and Corazón of Encino, California, and Tatum of Bath, Ohio. Nothing brought Karen greater joy than interacting with each of them, particularly spending extra time with Ofilia and Cora before, during, and after school at Temple Judea and MLC, play rehearsals, dance, gymnastics and piano lessons.
Friends and family will miss Karen’s warm hugs, lipstick-laden kisses, and her knack to tell them that they looked “sooo” cute, gorgeous, or handsome. Karen also loved her late dog, Brewster, who, like Karen, felt more natural at play than at rest; for both, their energy multiplied when family and friends entered the room.
In addition to her granddaughters, Karen is survived by sons Brad Rosenberg and his wife, Morgana, of Encino, California, and Stuart Rosenberg and his wife, Dr. Mary Ball, of Bath, Ohio; brother, Richard Levick, and sister-in-law, Sharon, of North East, Pennsylvania. She also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from LA to Warren to Erie and places in between.
Due to the current pandemic and related guidelines, private visitation and funeral services will be held for the family on Friday, May 21 at Temple Judea in Tarzana, California. Additional celebrations of Karen’s life will be held later this year in Los Angeles and Erie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in honor of Karen and her love of children, teaching, reading and the arts to Golden Performing Arts Center (https://www.goldenpac.org) a Los Angeles youth musical theater company or the PJ Library (https://pjlibrary.org/donate), which sends free Jewish children's books to families across the world.
