After an extended illness, Julie Ruth Vitelli Liebel, 58, passed away at St. Mary's Home West on Tuesday, February 25, 2014. She was born in Erie, Pa, on November 27, 1955. Julie was preceded in death by her father, Silvin Vitelli, her mother, Barbara Nientimp Vitelli Davis, and her stepfather, John Davis, all of Erie.
Julie was a 1974 graduate of St. Benedict Academy, and graduated from Mercyhurst College with a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education in 1981. Julie taught many years at St. John's elementary school in Girard until its closing and then taught at Erie Day School. In more recent years, she was a partner of C&R Estate Sales. Julie enjoyed spending time with her daughters, her family, her friends and neighbors. She particularly had a fondness for playing Scrabble with friends Carol, Debbie and Nancy.
Julie is survived by her beloved husband of 33 years, Richard E. Liebel, Jr. and her beloved daughters, Sarah and Elizabeth Liebel of Erie. She is also survived by her siblings: Karen Vitelli Pettit Schutte (Matthew) Lakeland, Florida; Paul Vitelli (Cheryl), Cleveland, Ohio; Sarah Davis Unrue (Bill) Meadville; and Ellen Davis Bradstreet (Mark) Reno, Nevada. She is also survived by father-in-law, Richard Liebel, Sr., sister-in-law Karen Liebel, brother-in-law Ken Liebel (Peg) Erie.
She is survived by the Vitelli, Davis, Nientimp, and Liebel families and her nieces and nephews: Christopher; Matthew, Kristen, Leigh Ann; Eric; Haydn, Davis; and Stephanie. She is survived by her close childhood friend, Carla of Tallahassee, Florida.
Rick, Sarah, and Elizabeth are grateful for the love, support, and prayers of Julie's family and friends. Friends may call Thursday 1 to 7 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street. A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home Friday at 10:15 a.m. followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Cathedral. Burial will be at Erie Cemetery.
