Julia Remek, age 96, of Fairview, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at her residence.
She was born in Erie on November 29, 1921, to the late Benedict and Kristina Yourica Sloboda.
Julia was a 1940 graduate of Harborcreek High School. Affectionately known to everyone as “Gram”, she was always giving her time to family and friends. She was known for her love of cooking, sewing and crafting. She volunteered for many causes including Boy Scouts, 4-H, church dinners and most recently she would create blankets for the Linus Project. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where she served in many capacities and TriBoro Senior Center, where she was the oldest member.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Remek in 1976 and her brothers, Benedict and Joseph Sloboda.
She will be greatly missed by her son, Frank (Betsy) Remek of Colbert, WA., daughters, Julie (James) Lender, McKean, PA., and Kristine (Pete) Silva with whom she resided. Also, survived by grandchildren Paul (Vikkie) Silva, Marcy McChesney, Mandie (Adam) Snyder, Jason (Jennifer) Remek, and Sarah Remek Garner. Great grandchildren Erynn, Leanna, and Dannica McChesney, Brielle Stern, Derek Snyder, Alyssa and Trae Garner, and Jacob Remek. She is further survived by her sister, Anne Edwards and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, Girard on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm and are invited to attend a service there on Friday at 10 am with Rev. Thomas Tyler.
Burial will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in McKean.
