Josephine S. “Jo” Davis, age 104, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024 at Westlake Woods Assisted Living.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 20, 1920, the daughter of the late John and Frances Polecki.
After graduating high school, she entered nursing school and became a Registered Nurse. Jo became a United States Navy Nurse, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander, and served her country honorably during World War II. A large portion of her duty days were spent on Guam where she was an operating room nurse, tending to wounded soldiers brought in from the battle field. She had a 20-year Navy career.
She was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church and an Altar Guild for 10 years
Jo loved her birds, especially chickadees and her pug dogs, Mugzy and Maggie. She was a world traveler and a kind and generous person to all.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, James Davis and her siblings, twin brother, Charles Polecki (died at birth), Frank Polecki, Joseph Polecki, Helen Polecki Buschman, Jennie Polecki, and Frances Filmanski.
She is survived by her step-son, Richard Davis (Dorothy) and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge 3801 W. 26th Street on Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 5:00 p.m. followed by full Military Honors.
Josephine will be interred with her husband, James, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania.
