Josephine Mary Carrig, age 94, of Erie, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Presque Isle Rehab and Nursing Center.
She was born in South Fork, PA on April 27, 1920, a daughter of the late George and Amelia Katilis Walukas.
Josephine worked at Hector’s Café for over 30 years and had the wonderful opportunity to “wait on” several celebrities. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, telling jokes and writing poetry. She also sang in several night clubs in San Francisco just after WWII. She was known for her warm smile, kind heart and her willingness to help anyone who was in need.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Andrew, George, Anthony, Edward and Alphonse and her sisters, Stella (Tomljanovich) and Adele (Pikus).
She is survived by her brother Donald Walukas (Pam), her daughters, Antoinette Holcombe and Rose Marie Waruszewski (Daniel) and her sons, John (Kathy), Michael (Sally), George and Edward (Faye). She is further survived by ten grandchildren, Daniel, Robert (Caitlyn) and Thomas Warzusewski, Stephanie Carrig McElhaney (Kevin), Elizabeth, Justin, Megan, Alexis, Sarah and Andrew Carrig and four great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Presque Isle Rehab and Nursing Center for the care they gave to her.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West Tenth Street, Erie on Monday, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice or the hospice of one’s choice.
