Joseph Chiarelli

Joseph Eugene Chiarelli age 75 passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Saint Vincent’s Hospital, Erie, Pennsylvania. “Pastor Joe” was born, April 26, 1946 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Joe attended, Greensburg Central Catholic High School, St. Vincent College BA Philosophy, Latrobe PA, St. Vincent Seminary, Master of Divinity, Latrobe Pa. and Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, Master of Music.

Joe served as a Professor of music for 10 years at Mercyhurst, University, he then served as the Minister of Music at Erie First Assembly and was currently an Associate Pastor at, Calvary Christian Center, Harborcreek PA. for the past 20 years.

Joseph was known for his “smooth” tenor voice, he taught private voice lessons and entertained for several seasons at Chautauqua in New York State. Joe was the architect and musical director of the annual seasonal dramatic performances at First Assembly of God for many years. The musicals were a highlight for the entire Northwest region of Pennsylvania that annually reached over 16,000 people at Christmas and over 8,000 at Easter.

Joe’s kind heart and keen sense of humor endeared him to his colleagues’ parishioners and anyone who became his friend. Joe will be missed by an unnumbered network of friends, musical enthusiasts and most of all his church community.

Joe leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Shirley, his sister Janet (Sardsfield), of Greensburg Pa. and two step-sons, Jeffery and Jonathan Vint of Erie.

Friends and Family may call at Calvary Christian Church (C3), 1016 Bartlett Road, Harborcreek, Pa. Sunday, November 7th, 2021 from 5-7 p.m., and are invited to attend a service of celebration at C3 on Monday, November 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. (Viewing from 9 to 10 am) Interment will be immediately following the Celebration, at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery, 2601 Norcross Road, Erie, Pa.
