Johnnie Mae Carson Ward, age 70 of Erie, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at UPMC Hamot.
She was born in Indianola, Sunflower County, MS on April 24, 1947, a daughter of the late William Henry and Willie Estelle Pinkston Carson.
Johnnie Mae received her GED in 1989, and worked at General Electric for 20 years, retiring in 2010.
She enjoyed traveling, going to the Casino, bingo, and especially spending time with her family. She was a faithful member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, and was also a member of the American Legion East Erie Post #771 Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Ward, Sr., son Shawn Carson, Sr., brothers Edward Carson, William Carson, Roosevelt Carson, and three sisters Willie Belle Carson, Evelyn Williams and Dorothy Lofton.
Survivors include her children, Robert Jones, Jr. (Tammi), Trina Jones of Ohio, Albert Jones, Sr. (Michelle), Ohio, stepsons Jerome Ward, Jr., and Edward Ward of Michigan, her sister Alice Carson, brothers Walter Carson, Robert Carson (Barbara), of Tampa, FL, Anthony Carson (Gwen), Charles Carson (Bert), Gary Carson (Jackie), James Carson (Donna), Craig Carson, and Aaron Carson (Jackie), all of Erie, PA. 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, her closest friend Mary Arrington, and a special cousin Willa Kinnard also survive.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street on Friday from 3 to 5 pm, and 7 to 9 pm, and are invited to services at St. John’s Lutheran Church 2216 Peach St, Erie, PA 16502 on Saturday at 11 am with Reverend Owen Rhodes officiating.
Burial in Erie Cemetery.
