John Vanyo

John Thomas Vanyo, age 82, of Erie passed away Friday September 19, 2014 at UPMC Hamot.

He was born July 16, 1932, in McKeesport, PA, son of the late Mary Hanusich and Andrew Vanyo. John graduated from McKeesport High School and served in the United States Army Corp of Engineers during the Korean War. He worked for the Kelsey Hayes Plant in McKeesport and also the PA State Liquor Control Board, from which he retired following 30 years of service.

John was a member of East McKeesport Lodge #765 F. & A. M. and was an Assistant Scout Master of BSA Troop 55, Port Vue, PA.

He was preceded in death by a sister Margret Vanyo Maturkanich and brothers George Vanyo and Andrew Vanyo.

John is survived by his nephew Elmer Maturkanich and Elmer’s sons Christopher and Jared.
