John R. Thompson, age 84, of Erie, PA passed away Sunday March 16, 2014 at the Village at Luther Square following a brief illness.
He was born in Peekskill, NY on March 25, 1929, son of the late Robert Henry and Alice May Gilbon Thompson.
John attended Peekskill High School and worked in foundry and metal shop production at Erie Forge and Steel for 40 years.
He was a member of the American Legion in Wesleyville, PA and VFW 470.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, June Thompson; his second wife Diane Thompson; a sister, Audrey Lepore and a brother, Harold Thompson.
He is survived by two sons, Robert Thompson of Erie and Bruce Thompson and his wife Melinda of Erie; two grandchildren, Jeremy Thompson and his wife Amy, Brandon Thompson and his wife Kristen; five great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Wednesday from 2:00 - 4:00pm and 6:00-8:00 pm. and are invited to a service there on Thurs at 10:30 am with Rev. Dan Owen officiating.
Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery.
