John Valentine Szymecki

John Valentine Szymecki, age 81, of Erie, passed away on September 23, 2024 at the Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Home. 

He was born in Erie, PA on March 19, 1943, a son to the late Valentine Szymecki and Ann Szymecki. He is preceded in death by wife, Rita M. Szymecki. 

John was a beloved husband, father, and friend, with a quiet, gentle soul. A passionate reader, he often lost himself in the pages of a good book, especially a Tom Clancy novel. He liked to make others laugh and got a kick out of making his kids roll their eyes at his corny dad jokes. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, John served honorably and used the skills he learned to go on to be an electrician for the phone company until he retired. He loved all the animals his wife and kids insisted on having, feeling most happy with a cat on his lap and a cup of coffee in hand. He was a devout Catholic who served his God through strength, kindness, and patience. 

He is survived by his four children, Michelle Szymecki, Shawn Fox, Sarah Szymecki, and Elizabeth Szymecki; three grandchildren, Isaac, Ashlee, and Samuel; as well as three siblings, Thomas Szymecki, Sylvia Szymecki, and Joseph Szymecki.
