John E. Southworth

John E. Southworth, age 95, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2025, at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge. He was born November 12, 1929, in Erie the son of the late John and Agnes (Pfister) Southworth.

A lifelong resident of Erie, John served with the US Army during the Korean War and had worked as an electrician with IBEW Local 56 for over 40 years. He was an avid golfer and bowler and was a member of the former Erie Maennerchor Club, Sunflower Club, and the Nuova Aurora Club. A devote Catholic, he was a member of St. Paul's RC Church. John’s favorite activity was following the lives of his two granddaughters, and he enjoyed family time with all his relatives.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Velma (Rigazzi) Southworth; a son, John (Jack) Southworth III, and a sister Donna Coyne.

John is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Southworth and her husband Larry Chichester of Manassas, VA and their daughters, Jasmine Southworth, and Madison Chichester. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John’s family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge, especially Neighborhood D, for the wonderful care provided to him.

Friends are invited to call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 W 26th St. on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at which time Funeral Services will be held. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
