John Paul Sherlock, age 66, of Erie, died on Friday, March 29, 2013. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa on June 26, 1946 the son of the late Andrew P. and Margaret Davis Sherlock.
He was a graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic High School for boys and then received a BA in Sociology from the Villa Nova University. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force Reserves and Air National Guard of Pennsylvania. John worked for many years in manufacturing management before retiring and working as a home health care aide with several organizations. He was very involved in his church as a member of the St. Paul Holy Name Society, he served as a lector and volunteered at the food bank and all other Church functions. Most recently John began his devoted life work as a counselor for the Maria House Project.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Sherlock along with three brothers Andrew, James and Michael Sherlock.
He is survived by his loving wife Donna L. Carlino and his children Anna Oughton "Steve", Jonathan Sherlock, Patrick Sherlock, and Ashley Lambert all of Philadelphia along with Brooke L Murphy of Erie. Surviving siblings include Margaret Weir (George), Frederick Sherlock (Bernadette), Mary Sherlock (Sister Margaret Andrew, SSJ), Rosemary Graf (Ed), Nancy Carey, a sister-in-law, Anita Sherlock all of the Philadelphia area and a brother- in- law, Raymond V. Thompson of Pittsburgh. He is survived by 3 grandsons, Aaron, Averi and Amani Robinson, and 7 nieces and 10 nephews.
Those also held close to his heart include Monsignor James Peterson, Joseph Tarquinio, the men of Our Lady of the Mount, especially Deacon Tom, Ralph, Eddie, Irvin, Chino, Brian, the men of Maria House Project and his dear friend Anthony Murphy.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 602 West Tenth Street, Erie Pa 16502 on Tuesday, April 2nd from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and are invited to a prayer service there on Wednesday, April 3rd beginning at 10:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St Paul's Roman Catholic Church, 1617 Walnut Street Erie, PA 16502 with Father Alexander Amico and Father Mark O'Hern officiating.
