John Schell

John B. “Huck” Schell

John B. “Huck” Schell age 85, of Erie, passed away Monday December 2, 2013 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Oil City, PA on January 30, 1928 and was the son of the late William and Edna Schell.

John graduated from Oil City High School in 1946.

He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of St. Julia’s Roman Catholic Church.

John worked for 27 years at Lord Corp. in Erie as purchasing manager and then retired from Conair in Franklin, PA. He enjoyed camping, golfing, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary A. “Marty” Schell, a son, Ron Schell; brothers Bill Schell and Paul “Nobs” Schell, and a sister Patricia Schell.

He is survived by his son John M. Schell and his wife Liz and their children, Dan and his wife Stephanie, and Laura and her daughter Cora; son Dan “Chip” Schell and his wife Lisa and their children Ally and Tyler; a sister Betty Perry of Pittsburgh, PA; a sister- in- law Margaret Wike and her husband Tad and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Interim Healthcare, VNA hospice, UPMC Hamot, and Healthsouth Rehabilitation Center for the loving and compassionate care John received during the past few months.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W 26th Street on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Julia Church 638 Roslyn Ave, Erie, PA 16501 with Msgr. Bruce Allison Celebrant. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation 130 W. 8th Street, Erie, PA 16501 or to the VNA Hospice 2253 W. Grandview Blvd., Erie, PA 16506.
