John Root

John Howard Root, age 52, of Erie, passed away Saturday November 26, 2016 at Millcreek Community Hospital.

He was born in Erie on February 23, 1964 son of Marilyn Boyer Root and the late Howard L. Root.

John graduated from Academy High School and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir for many years.

He was a chorister of the Erie Maennerchor Club, serving as a secretary from January 2001 to February 2007. He greatly enjoyed singing. Whether it was tenor, 2nd tenor, baritone or his last, bass.

John was an animal lover and an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother James H. Root.

He is survived by his mother Marilyn, and his fiancé, Sharon Betty Hetrick; his sisters Janet M. (Root)Davis and her husband Teron; Jennifer (Root)Watkins and her husband Bill; a niece Kayla Watkins and nephews Bill, Nicholas and Cody Watkins. He is further survived by his aunts, uncles and many cousins.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street at Powell Ave., on Tuesday at 4pm.

Private burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
