John Petre

Dr. John H. Petre, Jr., age 92, of Cleveland, OH and formerly of Erie died on Tuesday November 5, 2013 at the Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland. He was born in Hagerstown, Maryland on October 30, 1921, the son of the late John H. Sr. and May McVay Petre. John was a graduate of Erie Academy High School, Allegheny College and the Thomas Jefferson University Medical School. He was a veteran of WWII, having served with the US Army Medical Dept. He was a member of the Erie County Medical Society, the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He was a member of various national and international Surgical and Urological Societies and had served on the staff of Saint Vincent Health Center, the Hamot Medical Center, the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Erie. He was a former member of the Kahkwa Club. He was a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church where he had served as Ruling Elder, a member of Perry Lodge, No. 392, F. & A.M., a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Erie and the Zem Zem Temple Shrine. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Catherine Charvat Petre, a daughter, Julia Grace (Robert), Mentor, OH, a son, John H. Petre, III (Susan), Cleveland Heights, OH, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at The Church of the Saviour, 2537 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, 44118, on Saturday, December 14th at 1:30 PM. Friends may greet the family immediately following the service in the church parlor. Memorial contributions in Dr. Petre’s name may be made to The Church of the Saviour Foundation.
