John J. Olenski, 92, of Fairview, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday November 30, 2014, at the Erie Veterans Medical Center.
He was born in Milford CT, on August 16, 1922, the son of the late Chester and Anna Brzozoska Olenski.
John attended college at the University of Bridgeport and also served in the Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1946. John was an engineer at Amsco/Steris after settling in PA and remained there throughout his career until his retirement in 1987. John was an enthusiastic golfer, loved football and enjoyed spending time with his family and kids. He was Papa to his grandchildren and never failed to tell anyone and everyone how proud he was of them.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Nancy K. Olenski, and a brother, Stanley Olenski.
John is survived by his children, Doreen Johnson and her husband Steve (Northboro MA), Pamela Holmes (Virginia Beach VA), John P. Olenski and his fiancé Marion Lewis (Gloucester Point VA), Matthew Olenski and his wife Beth (Portland OR) and Christopher Olenski (Stephens City VA). John also leaves behind 7 brothers and sisters, Joseph Olenski (Milford CT), Helen Rice (Northford CT), Chester Olenski (Chicago IL), Albert Olenski and wife Michele (Milford CT), Anthony Olenski (Milford CT), Henry Olenski and wife Pat(Milford CT) and Irene Eagles and husband Bob (Chatsworth CA), and many nieces and nephews. Lastly, John leaves behind his 10 grandchildren who adored him, Gregory and Lindsey Johnson, Bethany, Christopher and Emily Holmes, Henry and Audrey Olenski, and Ashley, Haley and Cassie Olenski.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East in Girard on Thursday from 4-7 pm, and are invited to attend a funeral mass on Friday at Holy Cross Church, 7100 W. Ridge Rd. at 10am.
