John Malatesta

John L. Malatesta, age 43, died on Wednesday May 27, 2015 at home surrounded by friends and family. John was born in Erie, PA, the son of Merrilee Stine Malatesta Henne of The Villages, FL and the late Eugene Malatesta on January 19, 1972.

After graduating from Cathedral Prep in 1990, he joined the United States Air Force. He could figure out computers and video games with ease and he used these skills as an Information Technology Specialist at the VA Medical Center. His passion was scuba diving and golf and he loved to cheer on the Steelers and Penguins.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister Lauren Malatesta, his step father George (Joe) Henne, and his aunt Melody Stine Pye.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his girlfriend Aimee Kast of Erie; his step mother Mary Trost Malatesta of Boca Raton, FL; two step sisters Katie Piper and Michelle Brown, both of Erie; his uncles: Jack (Nancy) Stine of Salisbury, NC and Lloyd Pye of Las Vegas, NV, his aunt Marlene (Richard) Stine Batkiewicz (formerly of Erie) of Savannah, GA, several cousins, and his “bad kitties” Yukon and Jack.

Friends may call on the family on Saturday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St, (at Powell Ave). Private burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
