John W. Leubin of Millcreek passed away at UPMC Hamot on Friday, December 23, 2022. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on December 25, 1944, and the son of the late Reverend William G. and Ruth M. Kyle Leubin. John graduated from McDowell High School and attended Newbury College in South Carolina. After attending Newbury College, he went on to proudly serve in the United States Marines.
John worked in banking and insurance until he retired. After retirement, he enjoyed being a blackjack dealer at Presque Isle Downs Casino. John was a very active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, which his parents started when they moved to Erie, where he served on Church Council and was a Sunday School Teacher. John loved his community and served on the Millcreek School Board for 18 years and was a member of the Zem Zem Shrine Club.
John never met a game he did not like and especially enjoyed playing cards. He was part of a monthly pinochle and poker clubs that he attended until he became ill. John was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and never missed cheering on his beloved Steelers. He enjoyed taking day trips around Pennsylvania and Ohio with Sally, family week at Lutherlyn, and seeing other parts of the world. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family. John cherished every moment he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Flogene and James Crosby and brother-in-law, Patrick Burns.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sally Crosby Leubin; three children, Lisa M. Smith (Chris), Matt Leubin (Tami), and Kyle Leubin (Hilary Jones); four grandchildren, Alexandria Shaffer (Jeff), Amanda Smith, Abigail Leubin and Connor Leubin; two great-grandchildren, Atlas and Osiris Shaffer; brother and sister in laws, David and Lynette Crosby, and Chick and Pinky Crosby.
