John "Jack" Hugh Morris, age 95, of Erie, passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016 at Sarah Reed Senior Living.
He was born in Carbondale, IL on February 20, 1921 the son of the late Wilma and George Morris.
He graduated from Savannah High School in Savannah, Missouri and the University of Missouri.
John was a Navy veteran, serving on a minesweeper in the Pacific Theatre of Operation during WWII. John was a Mechanical Engineer, worked at the Lord Corporation and retired in 1983. He was a member of the Kingsley United Methodist Church. John was a basketball enthusiast and loved college football and fun games. He was well known in the area for his stained glass projects.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Patricia Sue, a sister Betty Morris, a daughter, Susan Sedgwick and a son-in-law Mark Taft. John is survived by his loving daughter, Nancy DiPlacido; two grandsons, Dr. Peter (Ashlee) Zmijewski of West Virginia and Kevin (Whitney) Zmijewski of Indiana; special sons-in-law Pete Zmijewski and Lee Sedgwick and a special great grandson Andrew Zmijewski.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue) from 4:00 until the time of the service there at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and are invited to attend service there immediately following with Reverend Harold Blair officiating. Burial will be private in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sarah Reed Senior Living Center and the Regional Home Health and Hospice for their care and compassion during John’s time at Sarah Reed and during his illness.
