Erie

Emblem
  • "Got a date with an angel, going to meet her at seven", are words from a song and typify Tim's love for music of all sorts. It also paints the picture of him being re-united with the love of his life, his late wife, Betty Sue. In 1956, a friend introduced him to this Southern Belle, and he instantly fell in love with her, a love that lasted nearly 60 years of marriage and continued even after her death in 2016. Tim always boasted that his wife was the best cook, singer, and mother he could have ever hoped for. They constantly traveled together and enjoyed music from their travels all over the world.

  • John Timothy Healy (Tim), 93, of Erie, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 9th, 2024.

  • Tim was born in Newark, Ohio on April 28, 1931, the son of the late John A. and Isabel (Curley) Healy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Sue (Burden) Healy, his sister Jean Ann Thorton, brother Michael T. Healy, and several nieces and nephews.

  • His education was very broad and started with home-schooling from his grandparents, Michael T. and Ella (Kocher) Healy. He attended Blessed Sacrament grade school in Newark, Ohio and spent his summers in New York City on E 23rd Street with his Great Aunt Anne. He attended St. Francis De Sales High School in Newark, Denison University, and then joined the U.S. Air Force. He attended the Army Language School for a year of Russian language study, and then spent a year and a half in Turkey. Tim had numerous jobs after his military service. In 1968 he was hired by Kaiser Aluminum in Heath, Ohio. In 1979 he and his family were transferred to Erie, PA, where he and Betty became very active in the community. He was a member of the local purchasing agents group and was a featured speaker at one of the National Conventions in Boston, MA, speaking on minority purchasing efforts. He was an active member of the Irish Cultural Society of Erie from it's conception and a Knight of St. Patrick, in which he was president for years. He was a board member for Asbury Woods for a number of years. He was also very active at his Parish, Holy Cross in Fairview, PA. He was a lector, eucharistic minister, and an ancient acolyte for morning mass and funerals.
  • He was also an avid sports fan and loved all sports "Notre Dame". He attended a Notre Dame Football game nearly every year and loved being on the Campus to attend the Pep Rallies and listen to the Marching Band on the steps of Bond Hall for the tradition-filled  "Concert on the Steps". He and Betty were also very involved with the Erie Philharmonic.

  • Tim is survived by his son Patrick T. Healy (Michelle) and daughter Kathleen McGarrey of  Erie, PA.; three grandchildren, Paul Davis, Caitlin Rumbaugh, and Alec Healy; nephew John Healy and niece Amy Thorton, as well as several cousins, great grandchildren, and a very good friend, Mrs. C.

  • Finally, Tim would always say, "Do you hear that whistle. Get ready to hop on the train." He had a date with an angel, going to meet her at seven, on his way to heaven.
